How to choose color scheme for your website

There are many websites available to help you choose the color scheme for your website. One of them is www.colorspire.com. In this website you can select the layout element and enter the colors to get the preview of the website. You can also make use of GIMP to select the colors from an image. If you have a header or background image available then you can pick colors from the image using the GIMP “Color Picker Tool” and by double clicking the foreground color in the Toolbox opens up the “Change Foreground Color” window. This window shows the HTML notation for the current color. You can copy this color value and paste it into colorspire layout color values. Here is the basic color scheme chosen from the P2PU school of webcraft image.

There is another website colorhunter.com where you can upload an image from that image it will generate the color scheme for you matching the image colors. It proposes the initial version of the colors to choose then you can either select those colors or you can start modify the colors until you are satisfied with the color scheme.
The other approach is to look at the art work or the existing web pages and make your choice based on the inspiration from them.
Note: This is my study notes from P2PU "From GIMP to xHTML and CSS" course.
